Beginner Swing Classes with Mercedes Moore
Learn the fundamentals of 6-Count Lindy (East Coast Swing) in a fun and welcoming environment! Each class begins with a review of the basics, making it accessible for beginners, before moving into new choreography. No partner or prior experience is needed—partners will rotate throughout the session to encourage connection and social dancing.
About the Instructor
Mercedes has been swing dancing since the mid-90s and discovered a vibrant dance community in Houston, TX, in 1999. She soon began teaching and performing as part of a team focused on community outreach through exhibitions and competitions. Her teaching approach emphasizes the importance of connection, the key element that makes partner dancing both enjoyable and engaging. (Photo credit: Mark Krause)

Directions: This event takes place in Studio 4 at the CCAE Studios, NOT in the Concert Hall or Center Theater.
Please note that entry through the Museum is not guaranteed. The most reliable way to access the studios is by parking in the Center’s Main Parking Lot, located further northeast near the James A. Stone swimming pool. From there, walk across the footbridge that connects to Grape Day Park.
Enter the studios through the green gate. As you walk in, the studio buildings will be on your right, numbered in descending order from 4 to 1—Studio 4 is the first door on your right.
Please note that the class on September 20th will be held in the Concert Hall Rehearsal Studio instead of Studio 4. The Concert Hall Rehearsal Studio is located just near our Admin office.
