It’s been too long since I’ve danced with live musicians! This event is bringing back the Hafla, a ritual celebration that is so central to Belly Dancing and Middle Eastern culture. Honestly, being the weirdo artist that I am, I was happily surprised that I was one of the Belly Dancers asked to be a part of this show! Though outwardly I appear as a “fusion” dancer, in many ways I have not strayed far from the foundational roots of Belly Dance. I am of Syrian blood on my fathers side so it does feel significant for me to perform among other people in the Middle Eastern community. Belly Dance is more than a skill I have, it’s a culture I emBody! If you’re in the San Diego area, I truly hope you come to this event!
