Come join this exciting 4-week course in which we will explore the sacred Vedic wisdom at the heart of the relationship between Yoga and Ayurveda. Taking a theoretical and practical approach, our particular focus will be on how to restore balance during the winter season, a time when there is a tendency to experience more dryness, lack of memory, insomnia, lower energy, an agitated mind, and slower digestion. After first studying the core philosophy shared between the sister sciences of Yoga and Ayurveda, we will cultivate and build practices utilizing the different tools and modalities they prescribe for therapeutic healing, such as asana (postures), pranayama (breath techniques), yoga nidra (deep relaxation), mantra (chanting), ahara (nutrition), vihara (lifestyle), dinacharya (daily routine), and satsang (spiritual study and community).

Part I: Elemental and Doshic Theory
Winter Season & Kapha Dosha

Our opening class will provide you with a basic understanding of the five elements, the three doshas, and how to find balance during the winter season. It will include an exploration of tools and practices specific to Kapha Dosha, including stimulating breathing techniques, exercise for the lymph, and kitchen home remedies that help to boost our immune system during the flu season.

Part II: Elemental and Doshic Theory
Winter Season & Vata Dosha

The second class will be a continuation of the first, however turning our focus to Vata Dosha. We will explore the myriad uses of oil and its benefits for combatting dryness, increasing overall hydration, and calming the nervous system. As a compliment, we will also create a peaceful, grounding yoga practice, incorporating restorative postures, calming breath exercises, and focused mantra meditation.

Agni: Stoking the Sacred Internal Fire

Agni, our digestive fire, is responsible for the digestion, absorption, and assimilation of everything, material and otherwise, that is received and perceived through our senses, such as food, thoughts, conversations, feelings, memories, knowledge, etc. Through an exploration of stimulating postures and breathing techniques, as well as nutritional regimens, our third class will focus on how to stoke and preserve our sacred internal fires, to the end of balancing mood, sustaining energy, enhancing discipline and focus, and facilitating spiritual transformation.

Subtle Therapeutics for Self-Healing: Where the mind goes Prana flows

Prana is the essential source of life, vitality, and energy. The principle way to cultivate a deeper relationship with prana is through breath awareness and breath control. When our prana flows with greater mindfulness we begin to take a more active role in clearing out stagnant energy, thoughts, and emotions – an invaluable therapeutic practice. In the final session of our 4-week course, we will honor our capacity for self-healing, exploring deep relaxation techniques, sound therapy, and moment-to-moment awareness.

Course led by Zarah Kravitz

Zarah dedicates her days to share the great Vedic teachings of Yoga and Ayurveda, as a means to help aid others cultivate a healthier, more meaningful, and holistic daily life.

She is a certified Ayurvedic Senior Practitioner, a graduate from The Ayurvedic Institute in New Mexico, taught under the divine guidance of Dr. Vasant Lad. Internationally she leads Ayurvedic group workshops, seminars, cooking classes, cleanse programs, and private consultations.

Zarah is also a certified Dharma Yoga teacher who studied with Sri Dharma Mittra in New York City. For the past twelve years she has spent her time sharing private and group yoga classes, leading special workshops, as well as, retreats in the United States, Colombia, Mexico and Ecuador. She currently offers group and private Dharma Yoga classes, which include a powerful series of postures, breathing techniques, sacred chanting, guided relaxation and meditation.
