Keynote Session: Bite-Sized Wellbeing During Uncertain Times: Evidence, Practice and Resources to Share

Workers everywhere are feeling overwhelmed and we know stress, burnout, and self-reported mental health issues are critical concerns. In this session we’ll explore patterns of employee wellbeing overall and what research data has shown over the past several years. We’ll review and evaluate bite-sized resources and interventions that can improve individual wellbeing and boost protective factors to decrease stress and prevent burnout. After the session, you’ll be able to understand how bite-sized interventions use positive emotions to improve individual wellbeing.

Keynote Speaker: J. Bryan Sexton, PhD. Associate Professor – Director, Duke Center for the Advancement of Well-being Science – Duke University Health System

Bryan is the Director of the Duke Center for the Advancement of Well-being Science. He leads the efforts around research, training and coaching, guiding quality improvement and well-being activities. A psychologist member of the Department of Psychiatry, Bryan is a psychometrician and spends time developing methods of assessing and improving safety culture, teamwork, leadership and especially workforce wellbeing. Currently, he is disseminating the results from a successful NIH R01 grant that used RCTs to show that we can cause enduring improvements in healthcare worker well-being.

A perpetually recovering father of four, he enjoys running, using hand tools on wood, books on Audible, and hearing particularly good explanations of extremely complicated topics.

Featured Session: Measuring Wellbeing: Building an Evaluation Strategy that Measures What Matters Most

If you are already feeling overwhelmed you might not be ready to jump into a comprehensive strategy just yet, but how could you ensure you are still making an impact? By identifying what matters most to your organization you are able to start to measure your outcomes and ensure you are trending in the right direction. In this session you will not only learn why and how to measure wellbeing in the workplace, but you’ll also leave with the skills, tools, resources, and confidence to do so.

Mari Ryan is a workplace wellbeing strategist, award-winning author and speaker. As CEO and founder of AdvancingWellness, she leverages over 30 years of business experience in various marketing, consulting, and executive roles across a variety of different industries. For the past decade, Ms. Ryan has been creating healthier businesses and impacting the lives of employees, through her consulting work and speaking on worksite wellbeing. Mari earned a Bachelor Degree from Lesley University, an MBA from Boston University, a Master’s degree in Health Promotion from Nebraska Methodist College, and is a certified Worksite Wellness Consultant. She is the co-founder and former Board Chair of the Worksite Wellness Council of Massachusetts. Mari is the author of the award-winning book The Thriving Hive: How People Centric Workplaces Ignite Engagement and Fuel Results, winner of the 2019 Axiom Business Book award.

Panel Session: Big Impact without a Big Lift

Organizational wellbeing is key to a happy, healthy workforce, but when you have competing priorities, a lack of financial resources or staff, or are struggling to get buy-in what can you do? In this session you’ll hear from a panel of individuals who will offer up ideas on what has worked in their organization and learn what can make a big impact on your population without adding a big lift to your plate.
