Rahul Neuman and Miles Shrewsbery
weave together Raga (melody) and Tala (rhythm) in a concert that many describe as a portal to India

RAHUL NEUMAN is the Lecturer of Ethnomusicology at UCLA, and the Co-Director of the Music of India Ensemble.

He has been a student of Hindustani music since he was a child. He began studying sitar at age 12 with his aunt, Sharmistha Sen, and Jeff Lewis, a disciple of the late Z.M. Dagar. In 1992, Neuman began intensive training under his guru, Ustad Shujaat Khan, in Seattle, where he was a visiting artist at the University of Washington. He made several subsequent trips to New Delhi, India, where he continued training under the guidance of his guru.

MILES SHREWSBERY is a tabla artist based in Southern CA.  Miles received his ongoing classical training from Pandit Abhiman Kaushal and Pandit Nandkumar Bhatlouande of Hyderabad, India.  He has performed all over the world with top Indian classical musicians, jazz artists and pop stars such as Shujaat Khan, Deepak Ram, Googoosh, Cheap Trick, and Yusef Lateef.  Currently, Miles is on faculty at UCLA as a Lecturer of Tabla, and co-director of the Indian Music Ensemble. He is an Artist-teacher in Residence for the Center for World Music in San Diego, while managing his own school – San Diego Tabla Academy.
